Super contributions as a non-government employer
GESB can now accept contributions from employers who are not part of the WA State Government (non-government employers). This means existing GESB members who have non-government employment can choose to have their contributions paid to a GESB Super account.
Are you a non-government employer?
GESB defines non-government employers as those who are not part of the WA public sector. This means small businesses, private sector organisations, WA local government and other Australian state and federal government organisations are classified as non-government.
‘Non-government employer’ has the same meaning as ‘non-government contributor’ as defined in the State Superannuation Act 2000, GESB’s governing legislation.
Only GESB Super accounts can accept non-government employer contributions
Only GESB Super accounts can accept contributions from employers not part of the WA public sector. This means that if your employee chooses to have their contributions paid to GESB, you must submit contributions for them using GESB Super fund details, including the GESB Super Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI) and Australian Business Number (ABN).
If your employee has a West State Super, Gold State Super, Gold State Super deferred or Retirement Income account, we will open a GESB Super account for them when we receive their first contribution submitted by you.
How to make super contributions to GESB

1. Receive a fund nomination form from your employee
To choose GESB, your employee must submit a completed Fund nomination form to you. This form is produced by GESB as an acceptable alternative to the ATO Standard choice form. GESB’s compliance letter is enclosed with the form and provides GESB Super fund details. You may receive our online nomination form by email or the PDF nomination form.

2. Pay super contributions to us via SuperStream
GESB can only accept contributions in the ATO's SuperStream standard data and payments format.
Use the GESB Super fund details below to process any contributions:
- Scheme name (as shown on MyGov): GESB Super Scheme
- Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI): 82144194929050
- Australian Business Number (ABN): 82144194929
Who can have their employer contributions paid to GESB?
Only current GESB members can request you pay their employer contributions into GESB. If your employee is a current GESB member, it generally means they used to, or still do, work in the WA public sector.
To be a current GESB member, your employee must have at least one of the accounts listed below:
- GESB Super
- West State Super
- Gold State Super
- Gold State Super deferred
- Retirement Income Pension
If they do not have an open GESB account and they no longer work in the WA public sector, they cannot re-join or have their employer contributions paid into GESB.
Have a question?
If you have a question that doesn't appear here, please contact us on 13 43 72.
You won't be able to pay super contributions to employees who do not have a current GESB account (GESB Super, West State Super, Gold State Super or Retirement Income Pension account). If they have closed their GESB account, they cannot re-join GESB unless they return to work in the WA public sector or in other specific circumstances.
The contribution will be rejected and the funds will be returned to the employer, as only GESB Super accounts can accept these type of contributions (non-government employer contributions).
You will need to contact your employee about the rejected contribution and obtain their authorisation to resubmit their contribution to a GESB Super account. The employee may need to contact GESB to understand their options if they hold a West State Super account.
Once you obtain authorisation from your employee to resubmit the super contribution to a GESB Super account, make sure you use the below details:
- Scheme name (as shown on MyGov): GESB Super Scheme
- Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI): 82144194929050
- Australian Business Number (ABN): 43 418 292 917
If you need to request a refund where an overpayment of contributions cannot be retrieved through your usual payroll recovery processes, please complete the Employer refund request - Non-government employer form, and send it to payroll.general@gesb.com.au.
You must provide a copy of a bank statement with your form to confirm the businesses' banking details.
Please note that digital signatures are not accepted.
As a non-government employer, you're unable to use Employer Online.
