At GESB ('we', 'us', 'our'), we are committed to managing your personal information with care and in accordance with Australian privacy laws, our statutory obligations, and our Privacy Policy. We collect your personal information directly from you, and in some cases from other relevant sources, so that we can carry out our functions and respond to your needs.

Why we collect your personal information

We collect, use, and process your personal information for purposes including:

  • Allowing you to access our applications, platforms, and online services
  • Responding to, and where required, investigating your enquiry, feedback or complaint
  • Communicating with members, employers, stakeholders, government agencies, and the broader community about our activities
  • Contacting you about matters relating to your superannuation, including important updates we believe may be relevant to you
  • Considering your employment application, including obtaining professional references and undertaking police or other background checks where appropriate
  • Contacting you about events, updates or presentations that may be relevant to your superannuation with us
  • Creating de-identified or aggregate data to help improve our services and operations
  • Complying with our legal, regulatory, and reporting obligations

If you choose not to provide your information

You do not have to provide all the information we request.

However, if you choose not to, we may not be able to:

  • Respond fully to your enquiry
  • Process an application
  • Provide you with access to certain services or platforms
  • Meet our legal obligations in managing your superannuation or your relationship with us

How we use and disclose your information

In addition to using your personal information in the ways listed above, your information may be used by, or disclosed to:

  • Third-party service providers, agents, consultants, and contractors who support our operations (including IT services, software providers, professional advisers, document storage, administration, or legal services)
  • Our fund administrator
  • Insurers, auditors or other professional advisers assisting us in the administration of our functions
  • Commonwealth and  Western Australian government departments, agencies and regulators
  • Other parties where required or authorised by law

Any party we engage to manage personal information on our behalf must comply with applicable privacy laws and our privacy requirements.

If you provide sensitive information (for example, health information), you consent to us collecting and using that information for the purposes described above or as otherwise authorised by law.

Our Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, store, use and disclose personal information, how you may request access to or correction of your information, and how to make a privacy complaint. It also explains your rights under relevant legislation, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and, where applicable, the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).
