Investment update – December 2023 quarter

  • Shares and Bonds rallied strongly due to slowing inflation and expectations of interest rate cuts in 2024
  • International Shares returned 6.9% while Australian Shares returned 8.4%
  • Australian Bonds and Global Bonds returned 3.8% and 5.8% respectively
  • My GESB Super and My West State Super returned 5.2%
  • RI Allocated Pension Conservative returned 4.0%

Investment update – September 2023 quarter

  • Shares posted negative returns over the September 2023 quarter following strong gains in the first half of 2023
  • International Shares fell 1.6%, while Australian shares declined by 0.8%
  • Bonds also declined, with higher expected interest rates having a negative impact on returns
  • Australian bonds were down 0.3% and global bonds dropped 2.5%
  • My GESB Super returned -0.83%; My West State Super returned -0.88%; and RI Allocated Pension Conservative returned -0.13%

Investment update – 2022/23 financial year

  • Share markets rebounded strongly over the year, despite high inflation, rising interest rates and isolated areas of stress.
  • International Shares returned 17.6% over the year, while Australian shares added 14.4%.
  • Bond markets returns were relatively weak, with Australian bonds rising 1.2% and global bonds falling 1.8%.
  • With most asset classes generating positive returns, our investment plans delivered strong returns for members over the 12 months to June 2023.
  • The My GESB Super option added 9.13% after fees and taxes while the My West State Super option returned 8.39% after fees.
  • Over the quarter, My GESB Super returned 2.15%; My West State Super added 1.77%; and RI Allocated Pension Conservative gained 0.58%.

  • All major asset classes delivered positive returns over the three months to March 2023
  • Signs that inflation has peaked has led to a more moderate outlook for interest rate rises
  • International Shares returned 7.7% while Australian Shares returned 3.3%
  • Australian and global Bonds returned 4.6% and 2.5% respectively
  • My GESB Super plan returned 4.02% for the quarter
  • My West State Super plan returned 4.30% for the quarter
  • RI Allocated Pension Conservative plan returned 3.05% for the quarter
