Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information Act 1992 (FOI Act) gives the public a right to access documents held by State and local government agencies, including GESB, subject to some limitations.

Members of the public can also apply to amend their own records if the information is inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or misleading.

What you can request

You can request access to any documents or information held by us that are not already publicly available for viewing or purchase.

Documents available under the FOI Act include paper records, plans and drawings, photographs, tape recordings, films, videotapes, or information stored in a computerised form.

The types of documents we hold, and arrangements for public access to these documents, are set out in our information statement.

How to make an FOI application

Any member of the public can apply to access one or more documents through our FOI process by using our FOI application form or making a written request.

Using our form may result in a quicker response. Read our Freedom of information fact sheet for more information about our FOI process.

Freedom of Information brochure and request form

If making a written request, please ensure that it:

  • Is in writing
  • Gives enough detail so the information can be identified
  • Includes an Australian address to which notices can be sent (telephone numbers and email addresses may result in a quicker response but will not be sufficient without a physical address)

You can submit your form or written request:

We will acknowledge all FOI applications in writing and provide a decision within 45 days.

How to amend personal information

We only hold personal information about our members.

A member may request the amendment of any incorrect personal information. The request must be in writing and clearly demonstrate how or why the personal information is inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or misleading.

Requests can be sent to:
