Explore how your super is invested

Following recent changes to the way you invest at GESB, now’s a great time to explore your super investments.
Here’s your quick guide to how super investments work (for most account types), what your options are with GESB and how they can help you maximise your retirement savings.
About your super investment
To help the money in your super account grow, we invest it in your choice of investment option.
These options involve different types of investments (known as asset classes) which each have a different level of risk and return.
Depending on your situation, different investment types might suit different stages of your life.
For example, when you’re just starting your career, it’s likely that you have plenty of time for the normal ups and downs of an investment market, so you might choose higher risk investment options for the chance of higher returns over the longer term.
When you have retired, you might have a shorter investment timeframe and prefer to keep your investment in a lower risk option. It’s a personal decision.
Your super investment options
GESB Super, West State Super, RI Allocated Pension and RI Term Allocated Pension members can choose from a range of Diversified options and Asset Class options.
Diversified options (previously Readymade plans) are pre-set investments in different combinations of asset classes, with a range of risk levels.
Asset Class options (previously Mix Your plan) invest in single asset classes which you can choose individually.
Until recently, members could only invest in one pre-set option or a mix of asset classes, in 5% increments.
Changes to our legislation in June 2026 have enabled us to offer you more flexibility to invest – so you have even more control over your retirement savings.
Now, you can invest in any combination and as many options as you’d like, in minimum 1% increments (as long as your investments add up to 100%).
As an example, someone might choose to invest:
- 30% within the Balanced option
- 30% within the Growth option
- 20% within Australian Shares
- 20% within International Shares
The right investment option for you will depend on your goals, investment timeframe and how much risk you’re comfortable with (known as your risk appetite).
