More super for employees and other changes from 1 July

1 July 2025

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government has introduced super changes to help Australians save more for retirement - this includes increased employer super contributions and super payments for Paid Parental Leave.

Employer super contributions have increased to 12%

Your employer is required to pay a minimum amount of super for eligible employees, which is called the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate.

From 1 July, the SG rate has increased from 11.5% to 12%. This means more money will go into your super account, helping you to save more for your retirement.

What do you need to do?

You don’t need to do anything to receive this increased payment. Your employer will automatically increase your super contributions to 12%.

You can check your employer contributions and your current super balance in Member Online.

Super will be paid on Paid Parental Leave

The Australian Government has begun paying super on government-funded Paid Parental Leave.

From 1 July, if you care for a child (born or adopted) and receive the government’s Parental Leave Pay, you will now also receive the Paid Parental Leave Superannuation Contribution.

Be aware of scams about upcoming changes to super

GESB is aware of scam messages circulating that relate to changes in super for the 2025/26 financial year. This includes false information relating to changes in the Commonwealth preservation age and the access rules for your super.

The only changes to super effective as of 1 July for the 2025/26 financial year are detailed above.

Always get your information from official sources such as the Australian Government or the ATO and prioritise your online security.
