How to claim or vary a tax deduction
GESB Super members only
You may be able to claim a tax deduction – or make changes to a tax deduction – for personal concessional contributions you have made to your GESB Super account.
Before you get started
We recommend that you seek professional financial advice and/or tax advice if you wish to claim a deduction for your super contributions. This is a complex area and it’s important to confirm your eligibility and know about any other tax considerations.
Before you start, make sure you have read the relevant fact sheet carefully to make sure your application is valid.

These fact sheets explain the conditions you need to meet to be eligible to claim a tax deduction for the relevant year. Special rules apply when you have withdrawn or rolled over part of your benefit, or if you are a high-income earner.

How to lodge or vary your claim
To claim a tax deduction on a personal contribution that you’ve made to your account, you need to complete and submit the 'Notice of intent to claim or vary a tax deduction' form.
Once you have completed and submitted the form, we’ll be in touch to confirm this with you. Then, you can submit your tax return for that year.
About the form
As part of completing the form, you’ll need to provide a range of information including your member number, which you can find on your statement or in any member communications you’ve received from us.
You’ll also need to indicate whether you are making a claim, or increasing or decreasing the amount of your claim – and the amounts involved.
You’ll need to confirm that you’re eligible and read and agree with the member declaration on the form. If you’re unsure about any of the declaration statements, please contact us to discuss.
Finally, you’ll need to confirm and submit the form.
