How you can access our services
At GESB, it’s important to us that the information, tools and services we offer are accessible to all of our members and the wider community – whether that’s through this website, in-person at a seminar or webinar, or over the phone when you call us.
We want access to be easy for all our members

We have a diverse member base, and ensuring our tools and information is accessible to all members, across all stages of their life, is important to us. We understand that how and when you want to access our products and services will differ according to your needs and preferences, including your level of comfort with technology and whether you might need additional aids such as a screen reader to help you access information.
Since 2019, we’ve been working to implement a range of initiatives to make sure everyone can engage with us, and in an increasingly digital world.
Attending seminars in-person
All of our seminar venues in Perth and regional Western Australia (WA) have been assessed, audited and altered where necessary to make sure people of all ages and abilities can enjoy easy access to our education resources. This includes access to our offices in Perth.
Contacting us
Over the phone
If you’re unable to hear or speak with someone over the phone, our member services staff can assist you through the National Relay Service. If communication in English is a barrier for you or someone you are helping, member services staff can assist through the Translating and Interpreting Service.
Live chat
Live chat is our online service which allows you to connect with us in real-time. It has been assessed and recognised as accessible, meaning it is a service which is easy for all of our members to use regardless of how they use the internet.
Using our website
Our website meets the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 level AA criteria. This is a series of internationally-recognised standards for web content accessibility, which helps to make websites more useable for everyone.
Digital documents and alternative formats
With digital being the most common form of access nowadays, most of our documents are available from our website in a PDF or HTML format and are easy to download and print.
All of our documents and the information on our website, including brochures, forms and fact sheets are available in different formats such as electronic, large print, audio or Braille. To request a document in an alternative format, please email daip@gesb.wa.gov.au.
Calculators and tools
We have a range of online tools and calculators designed to help you grow your super and plan for your retirement, such as our Retirement planning calculator, Contributions calculator and Selecting your investment plan tool. These have been assessed as accessible.
How we aim to make access easy for all our members
We regularly consult with leading experts at the Centre for Accessibility (CFA) to make sure our information and resources are accessible.
The CFA are a not-for-profit organisation, and their work directly includes people with a lived experience of disability. We engage the CFA to perform accessibility reviews on our digital tools, services and projects. They work closely with us and our website developers to fix any accessibility issues and make sure they meet or exceed the WCAG standards.
We receive ongoing training and support in the creation of new digital assets, to make sure all of our digital tools and resources remain accessible for all members.
Our accessibility and inclusion champions
We have dedicated staff at GESB who form our Workplace inclusion network (WIN) and consider how accessibility and inclusion can be integrated in all projects.
In 2021, our Digital Communications Specialist Jane Ots was recognised for her work driving accessibility initiatives within GESB as recipient of the ‘Accessibility Person of the Year’ award in the 2021 Australian Access Awards.
She was integral in managing the audits of our digital assets and ensuring accessibility initiatives were adopted business wide.
As a key contributor to our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP), Jane continues to help us embed accessibility into our culture, practices and training, making sure it is a key consideration in all of our projects and processes.
“I’m proud of the work that we’ve been doing at GESB to improve accessibility for our members and the wider community,” Jane said.
“Accessibility is important for so many reasons. Over 1 billion people - which is 15% of the world’s population - experience some form of disability, and one in five Australians have some form of permanent disability. So, it’s essential that our website, tools and the services we provide are accessible to ensure equal access and opportunity for everyone.”
