Making informed decisions about your retirement

When you retire, you'll need to make some important decisions. You'll need to decide what to do with your super, how you would like to be paid, how you would like to invest your retirement savings to keep your investment growing - and much more.

We're here to help. We offer a range of tools and services to help you understand your options and make the best decision for your own circumstances. One of the services we offer is called our Retirement Options Service, or ROS.

ROS is a 60-minute, one-on-one meeting1 with one of our experienced consultants, who know and understand our unique schemes.

Three super reasons to use our Retirement Options Service

1. You want to understand more about your super

Learning as much as you can about how your super works will give you more confidence when you're making decisions about your retirement.

At the meeting, we can discuss with you the situation specific to you and help you understand your individual options. Our consultants are there to help you understand your super and answer your questions.

2. You want to find the best ways to fund your retirement

You can use your ROS appointment to learn about the different options you have to fund your retirement. You'll learn about retirement income streams and how they operate. You can learn about how to transition to retirement and how this affects your super, which could be useful if you have thought about reducing your work hours before you commit to fully retiring.

Your consultant can help you take steps towards your retirement planning and can even help you complete the paperwork you might need, such as the application form for opening our Retirement Income Pension (including our RI Allocated Pension and Transition to Retirement Pension).

3. You need information that relates to your specific situation

It's important to understand that while ROS is tailored to your needs and situation, it is not personal financial advice. ROS is useful if you are planning for retirement and need more information to make your own financial decisions. If you have already received professional advice, ROS can provide specific information about GESB's unique schemes, which will assist in your financial planning.

As part of your meeting, you can learn about the conditions of release for your super, how tax applies to super benefits and in retirement, as well as how your Centrelink entitlements could be impacted by your super.

If you're a Gold State Super or West State Super member, you probably already know that you have a scheme that is not like many others in Australia. You have an untaxed scheme which means your super works in a different way to most other types of account. Your ROS appointment can help you learn a lot about super, from tax implications to how your benefit is calculated.
