Our focus on accessibility in 2025

15 May 2025

This year, Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) falls on Thursday, 15 May.

This day is designed to raise awareness of the importance of accessibility, including digital accessibility, for more than one billion people with disabilities around the world.

At GESB, we’re continually working to improve access and inclusion across our organisation, including digital accessibility for our website, tools and other online services.

Digital accessibility enables everyone to access and use online content

We’re the largest super fund based in WA, with more than 247,000 members.1 It’s a priority for us to make sure all of our members, employers and the public can find and easily use our website and online tools and services.

To help everyone, including people with visual, auditory, motor or cognitive impairments, access and use our online content, we have these accessibility features in place:

  • Keyboard navigation for all website elements and content
  • Captions on our recorded webinars
  • Accessible PDF documents including forms and product information booklets
  • Alternative text for our images to help screen reading technology describe these visually
  • Enough contrast between text and background colours to make content easier to read for everyone

Accessible website, tools and PDFs support assistive technology such as screen readers, text-to-speech programs and Braille displays. They make sure the information and services we offer are universally easy to use and meet established accessibility standards.

We’re always working to improve digital accessibility

Making our super and retirement information and tools more accessible – and keeping up to date with accessibility needs and features – is an ongoing process for our team.

We conduct regular reviews to improve the accessibility of our website, tools and services. In 2024, the Member Online portal and our ON24 webinar registration process were audited and, as a result of the changes made, these now have accessibility scores of 90% or more.

We’re proud that our Digital Communications Specialist, Jane McInnes, has again been invited to judge the Australian Access Awards, after winning Accessibility Person of the Year in 2021.
