Do WA public sector casual employees automatically receive insurance cover?
No - if you started employment as a casual employee in the WA public sector on or after 1 July 2010, you aren’t eligible for automatic basic cover.
You may be able to opt in for basic cover without completing a full insurance application. To apply, you’ll need to complete the Insurance opt in-form, including the ‘At Work’ declaration, and make sure we receive it within 90 days of the date of your employer’s first Superannuation Guarantee (SG) contribution.
Generally, to be eligible to opt in, you also need to be:
- Employed on a casual basis in the WA public sector
- Receiving SG contributions from your employer
- Younger than 65 years of age
You will also need to answer the underwriting questions and acknowledge the declaration on the Insurance opt-in form.
