Investing in an inclusive and diverse workforce

As part of our commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse workforce, we recognised International Day of People with Disability by hosting a morning tea to celebrate our people, share stories about our own experiences of disability, and acknowledge the work we are doing to make our workplace welcoming and supportive.

International Day of People with Disability is held on 3 December each year and aims to increase public awareness, improve understanding, and recognise the contributions and achievements of the 4.4 million Australians with disability.

Our Senior Manager, People and Business Services, Gus Dhillon, is passionate about creating a workforce that reflects the WA community.

‘At GESB, our members are diverse, and so are our people. We recognised this important day by celebrating the differences that make us all unique.’ Gus said.

How we are building a culture of inclusivity

Guided by our workforce and diversity plan, we proactively look for ways to build diversity into our workforce planning; and for more than five years, we have offered work experience opportunities to West Australians with disabilities through partnerships with Good Sammy Academy and Edge Employment.

‘Through these placements, we have worked with some incredible people who have helped us better understand the needs of people with disability and recognise the valuable skills and attributes they bring to our workplace.’ Gus said.

‘We are thrilled that two of our work experience people have joined GESB as permanent team members. There is so much to gain from celebrating disability and building an inclusive and diverse workforce – and by doing so, we are helping create a strong future for all West Australians.’
