I've been provided with automatic insurance

Insurance can give you peace of mind, by providing you with the financial support to protect what’s important to you if you pass away or have to stop work due to illness or injury.

Your automatic insurance comes with three types of cover:

Death

A one-off lump-sum payment in the event of your death (and includes a terminal illness benefit).

Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD)

A one-off lump-sum payment if you are totally and permanently disabled and can’t work as a result of injury, sickness or disease.

Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI)

A monthly income of up to the lesser of your Amount Insured or 75% of your pre-disability income for up to two years if you become disabled due to sickness or injury.

Is your insurance right for you?

As a new member, you can take steps to make sure that the insurance cover you've been provided with is right for you:

Transfer your other insurance cover to GESB

If you have insurance in another super fund or an individual retail policy, you can apply to transfer that insurance to your GESB account.

You might be eligible to lower your premiums with our Professional and Executive category.

I haven't been provided with automatic insurance

We assess your eligibility for insurance cover when we receive your first Superannuation Guarantee (SG) contribution from your employer.

There are three key reasons why you may not have been provided with automatic insurance with your new account:

  1. You don’t meet the eligibility requirements (for example, you are 65 years old or older)
  2. We haven’t received a Superannuation Guarantee (SG) contribution from your employer yet
  3. You were employed, or initially employed, by your WA public sector employer on a casual basis (as advised by that employer)

Although you haven't been provided with automatic insurance cover, you may still be eligible for Death, Total and Permanent Disablement and Salary Continuance Insurance cover. Find out more below.

As a WA public sector casual employee, you don't usually receive automatic insurance with your new GESB Super account. But you may be eligible to opt in for basic cover for a limited time.

Insurance for casuals

We won't have received an SG contribution for your account, so we won't have provided you with automatic cover. You can still apply for cover by completing an application form in Member Online.
